People who experience leprosy have the right to lead a dignified life, which is free from stigma and prejudice. People with leprosy often have issues with mental wellbeing due to the stigma related with the disease. World Leprosy Day (WLD) presents an opportunity to celebrate individuals who have experienced leprosy, increase awareness of the disease, and work towards ending leprosy-related stigma and discrimination.

This day is celebrated on the last Sunday of the month of January. The 2022 campaign for WLD - “United for Dignity” – urges unity to honor the dignity of people who have this disease.
