The latest CDC national forecast suggests that while COVID-19 cases are declining across the United States, the number of COVID-related deaths will continue to rise in February, and up to 75,000 more deaths could occur by the end of this month.

The US tally could reach around 933,000 to 965,000 COVID-19 deaths by February 26. The surge in deaths tends to lag the spike in cases by about 3 weeks. The recent Omicron peak occurred in late January. Around 7,600 to 23,700 new fatalities could be reported for the week ending February 26. The state- and territory-level estimates indicate that the number of newly reported fatalities per week will show a rise in 4 jurisdictions and fall in 12 jurisdictions. In other states and territories, deaths are predicted to remain the same or may have an uncertain course.

COVID-19 cases are showing a dramatic decline, with the 7-day average of cases falling below 500,000 for the first time in weeks. On Wednesday, the average was nearly 385,000 daily cases, translating to a 49% decline from 750,000 daily cases 2 weeks ago… (Medscape)
