Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dr Balram Bhargava, said that only 10% deaths have been reported among fully vaccinated individuals who were hospitalized with infection due to the Omicron variant, compared with around 22% deaths among the unvaccinated or partially-vaccinated individuals, as he cited the results of a study.

The study is based on data from the national clinical registry of COVID-19. Co-morbidities continue to be a cause for concern as most people who succumbed to COVID-19 had at least one underlying disease. Nearly 91% of the fully vaccinated and 83% of the unvaccinated or partially-vaccinated people who died due to COVID had at least one comorbidity, according to the data.
