In the second week of a decline in infections during the third COVID wave in the country, cases dropped by a record 45%. The rate of fall in cases has more than doubled compared to 19% in the previous week.

However, deaths due to COVID-19 continue to increase, but the pace of surge has slowed this week. The number of deaths has started to show a decline in many states.

Slightly more than 9.7 lakh cases were registered in the week from January 31-February 6, which is 44.7% less than the previous week′s figure of 17.6 lakh. This represents the sharpest decline in weekly cases since the start of the pandemic.
