For the first time deaths due to Covid-19 declined across India in the week ending Sunday. A significant decrease was also observed in the fresh new cases.

3,366 fatalities were reported during the week (February 7-13), which was 23% less than the previous week and the first fall in death count in six weeks of the Omicron-driven third wave. These figures excluded deaths from earlier months that were added to the tally during this period.

India also reported a decrease in COVID fresh cases for the second consecutive week. A reduction of 60% in the number of fresh new cases as compared to the 45% decrease was reported last week. Covid cases have been falling for three weeks now. In the current week, around 3.9 lakh new cases were reported as compared to 9.7 lakh in the previous seven days.
