Hong Kong to vaccinate 3-year-old children amid COVID surge

Amid a recent surge of COVID-19 infections, Hong Kong is set to offer COVID-19 vaccines to children as young as 3 years of age.

Vaccinations using Chinese Sinopharm vaccine for children aged 3 years and over were reported to start from Tuesday. Hong Kong has 73% of its eligible population fully vaccinated, which does not include children. 

The current surge fuelled by the Omicron variant has led to new restrictions that limit in-person gatherings to no more than two households. Lockdowns have been imposed on residential buildings where clusters of cases are detected. Only vaccinated individuals are allowed to enter shopping malls and supermarkets, and places of worship, hair salons and other businesses have been closed… (ET Healthworld – AP, February 14, 2022)
