Sweden recommends fourth COVID vaccine shot for elderly

Sweden′s Health Agency has recommended that individuals aged 80 years or above should be given a second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine, the fourth shot in total, in order to avert the decreasing immunity amid Omicron spread.

The recommendation also includes people living in nursing homes or those who are receiving assisted living services at home. The second booster dose has to be administered at least four months following the first booster jab, stated the agency. It further stated that an increasing number of infections had been registered among people at a higher risk of serious disease, such as nursing home residents, in the recent weeks.

The health agency mentioned that like the first booster shots, the jabs should consist of Pfizer/Biontech or Moderna vaccines… (Reuters, February 14, 2022)
