The Omicron-driven third wave is showing signs of an early end in the country, with cases continuing to show a steep fall for the fourth week in a row. 

Deaths due to COVID-19 declined in the week ending Sunday to around half the number registered in the previous seven days. COVID-related deaths declined for the second consecutive week, with a significant fall in fatalities seen in the week from February 14-20. The country registered 1,898 deaths in the week, showing a drop of 44% from the previous week′s figure of 3,366. These figures do not include fatalities from earlier periods that were added to the tally.

Over the past two weeks, the infections have reduced by more than half in the country. India registered a little more than 1.73 lakh new cases in the current week, dropping by 56% from the previous week′s count of 3.94 lakh… (ET Healthworld – TNN, February 21, 2022)
