230 children aged 2-6 receive COVID shots in Covovax trial

A group of 230 children, aged between 2 and 6 years, has become the youngest group in the country to receive a COVID-19 vaccine during trials of the Covovax vaccine, stated manufacturer Serum Institute of India on Tuesday.

The second vaccine dose will be given 21 days later and the trial, being conducted at 10 hospital sites in India, will conclude by the end of May. Covovax’s phase 2 and phase 3 pediatric trials had started in August. The trials include 920 children overall, with 460 in the 12-17 years age group, 230 in the 7-11 years age group and an additional 230 in the 2-6 years age group.
