EMA panel recommends 3 month interval for Moderna booster jab

The advisory committee to the European Union′s drug regulator has recommended reducing the interval between the second dose and booster jab of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from six months to three months.

Many countries, including Greece and France, have already reduced the interval between the first two doses and the booster dose of COVID-19 vaccines, considering the increase in infections due to the Omicron variant. Some countries have also authorized a fourth dose for the vulnerable people.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) had stated in December that data supported safe and effective use of a booster dose as early as three months after the two-dose primary series, without changing the recommendation of a six month gap. EMA′s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has also recommended the use of Moderna′s vaccine, Spikevax, in children aged between 6 and 11 years… (Reuters, February 25, 2022)
