As the third wave of COVID-19 recedes in India, experts have predicted that a fourth wave may start around June 22 and continue till October 24. 

According to the researchers, the severity of a fourth wave will depend on the emergence of new virus variants as well as the vaccination status of people, including booster dose. Researchers from IIT Kanpur predict that a fourth wave, if it emerges, will last for about four months. According to the researchers, the curve will reach a peak between August 15 and 31 and start declining after that.

The prediction has been published on the preprint server MedRxiv. This is the third time that IIT Kanpur researchers have predicted a coronavirus wave in the country.
