Private hospital fined for violating norms: Thiruvananthapuram

The district medical officer (DMO) imposed a penalty on a private hospital for charging Rs 1.42 lakh from a patient who was shifted from the Covid cell. The hospital charged Rs 1.42 lakh for six days of treatment.

The state human rights commission (SHRC) was informed by the DMO that the hospital was asked to pay a penalty which was 10 times more than the treatment cost collected from the patient and was given a time of 15 days’ notice to comply with the directive. The norms stated that the patients who were referred from the district collectorate would not be charged any treatment cost by the empanelled hospitals.
