Nearly one-third of people have persistent symptoms 6-12 months after COVID

In a survey involving 152,000 people in Denmark, researchers noted that nearly one-third of the participants reported at least one persistent symptom 6-12 months after COVID-19 infection.

The questionnaire-based study included one of the largest groups of people who were not hospitalized with COVID-19. The participants were followed for a longer period than other major studies, stated researchers at Denmark′s State Serum Institute (SSI).

The study revealed that change in sense of smell and taste and fatigue were the most common lingering symptoms. Around 29.6% of the respondents who had tested positive reported that they had at least one ongoing physical symptom 6 to 12 months after the infection, in comparison with 13% in the control group. Around 53.1% of the respondents who had the infection reported experiencing either mental or physical exhaustion, sleep issues or cognitive problems 6 to 12 months after infection, compared to 11.5% in the control group… (Reuters, March 4, 2022)
