Traditional Dietary Advice Could be the Best for IBS Patients

According to a randomized trial published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, traditional dietary advice appears to be the best approach for patients with non-constipated irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and the low FODMAP diet (LFD) and gluten-free diet (GFD) to be secured for specific patients.

The study included 99 patients. Around 58% of the patients who followed GFD, 55% of those who followed LFD, and 42% of the patients who followed traditional dietary advice had a ≥50-point reduction in IBS symptom severity score (IBS-SSS) after 4 weeks. In comparison with the GFD and LFD, patients with IBS found traditional dietary advice to be cheaper, quicker to shop for, and easier to follow when eating out, noted researchers… (Medpage Today)
