The skin is the barrier organ of the body which is continuously exposed to various stimuli affecting its morphology and function. Along with having visible manifestations, like wrinkling, sagging, dryness or age spots, skin ageing is also associated with an onset of age-related skin disorders and diseases, like dermatoses, infections and malignancies. This may be due to the accumulation of senescent cells in the skin tissue. Evidence indicates cellular senescence to be an essential mechanism driving organismal ageing.

Natural polyphenols have many health benefits along with having ameliorative effects on skin ageing. polyphenols affect the molecular pathways of senescence, prevent or delay its formation and, hence, avoid or ameliorate ageing and age-associated pathologies of the skin.

The molecular mechanisms through which various polyphenols impact the process of senescence needs to be investigated thoroughly to identify their specific molecular targets.

Overall, natural anti-senescence polyphenols have a great potential to be used in preventing and treating the visible signs of premature and chronological ageing and age-related disorders of the skin.
