Preliminary data from the COVID and Cognition Study, published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, showed that7 out of 10 long COVID patients experienced concentration and memory problems months after the infection.

The study included 181 long COVID patients, among which 78% complained of having difficulty in concentration, 69% reported brain fog, 68% reported forgetfulness and 60% were unable to find the right word while speaking. These results were compared with similar people who never were infected with SARS-CoV-2.

About 50% of people with long COVID said their symptoms were not being considered seriously and around 75% of those with severe ongoing symptoms complained about their inability to do work for long periods. Acluster of symptoms, including fatigue, chest pain, body pains, headache and limb weakness during the acute illness predicted cognitive symptoms and performance on memory-test up to 6 months later.
