India reports lowest weekly COVID deaths in two years

India registered less than 200 deaths related to COVID-19 during the week ending Sunday. This is the lowest figure in around two years.

The COVID-19 case numbers increased by 4% globally over a period of seven days till Saturday, however, India registered a decline of 40% in new cases in the week ending Sunday. The country logged a little over 15,800 new infections, the lowest weekly number since the week of April 27-May 3, 2020. During the previous week, the figure stood at 26,400 new infections.

Deaths dropped to 163 during the current week, with Sunday’s data awaited from two-three states. This is the lowest weekly death toll from the pandemic since 90 fatalities were reported in the week of March 30-April 5, 2020, the week after a total lockdown was imposed on March 25, 2020… (ET Healthworld – TNN, March 21, 2022)
