European Medicines Agency Recommends Approval for AstraZeneca's COVID Prevention Cocktail

The European Union’s drug watchdog has recommended the approval of AstraZeneca′s COVID-19 prevention cocktail, to be used among patients having issues with their immune systems or those who have severe reactions to other COVID-19 vaccines. 

The human medicines committee of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended that marketing authorization be given for Evusheld for the prevention of COVID-19 in people aged 12 years and over.

The cocktail consists of two monoclonal antibodies – tixagevimab and cilgavimab. They target the spike protein of the virus at two different sites. The EMA stated that data from a study on 5,000 people who were received two jabs revealed that it could reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection by 77%, with the protection persisting for a minimum of six months. The study participants had never had COVID-19 and had never received a vaccine or other preventative treatment… (NDTV – AFP, March 24, 2022)
