COVID-19 infections have reached a record high in Scotland and Wales and are approaching record levels in England as well. Close to 4.2 million people were infected with COVID across the UK last week, revealed official data on Friday.

The surge is attributed to Omicron BA.2 subvariant, stated the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The number of hospitalizations is also increasing in England and Wales, however, the number of people in high-dependency units continues to be low. Scotland′s hospitals currently have a record high of 2,326 patients.
