China witnesses an upsurge of COVID cases

The national health authority of China recorded 2,129 new COVID-19 cases on April 1st, compared to 1,827 cases on March 31st. Local infections accounted for 2,086 of the new cases, up from 1,787 the day before.

The number of new asymptomatic cases (which China does not consider to be confirmed) jumped from 5,559 to 7,869. Amongthese, Shanghaialone reported 6,051 asymptomatic COVID-19 cases and 260 symptomatic cases for April 1. Currently, the total tally of confirmed COVID cases in China stands at 153,232, with 4,638 deaths. (Reuters, April 2, 2022)
