A study reported that up to 84 percent of patients who died of Covid-19 at SevenHills Hospital in Andheri were suffering from some comorbid condition. The hospital had treated the maximum number of serious Covid-19 cases in Mumbai.

In the analysis of the data recorded between April 2020 and March 2021 more frequent deaths were observed in older men (68%) than women and youngsters. Higher mortality was seen in those reporting late to hospitals due to delayed referrals, resulting in a severe disease condition with higher oxygen requirements.

Hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular illnesses were linked to poorer outcomes. Of those who died, 21% had no underlying problems, while the rest had one or more comorbid conditions. A further reason fordeteriorating conditions of patients was because of delay in availing medical care or referral from smaller centers and delay in administering essential drugs like remdesivir, tocilizumab, or anticoagulants in the appropriate time frame. At the time of admission, about 65 percent of patients were on a non-invasive ventilator. Around 93.5% of deaths occurred in patients who came to the hospital with a very high oxygen requirement.
