Chinas Kintor Pharmaceutical claimed on Wednesday that its prospective COVID-19 medication proxalutamide effectively lowered the chance of hospitalization and mortality among outpatients with mild to moderate symptoms in a clinical trial.According to preliminary statistics, the study enrolled approximately 700 individuals from across the world, with the majority from United States, who were given either proxalutamide or a placebo. Though it is unclear how many patients were infected due to the Omicron variant, among those who received more than seven days of treatment, six in the placebo group were hospitalised and one died, whereas no hospitalisation or death was reported in the treatment group. Proxalutamide reduced the risk of hospitalization or death by 50% in all participants who received at least one day of therapy. The risk was lowered by 71% in participants who received therapy for more than one day.Pfizer Incs Paxlovid and Brii Biosciences Ltds antibody-based medication for mild and intermediate COVID patients with a high risk of advancing to severe diseases have been licensed in China. More research into the drugs efficacy in extreme cases was underway.( Reuters, April 6, 2022)
