Every year on April 7, World Health Day is celebrated globally to mark health awareness throughout the world. On April 7, 1950, the first World Health Day was observed to bring worldwide attention to a topic of vital importance to global health each year. Our Planet, Our Health is the theme of World Health Day 2022.

On World Health Day 2022, WHO will focus worldwide attention on critical efforts needed to keep humans and the planet healthy, and steer a movement to create societies centered on well-being. The pandemic has adversely affected the entire world, putting a massive strain on health services leading to increased episodes of diseases like cancer, asthma, and heart disease.Besides the pandemic, environmental pollution is also an additive cause for the rise of such diseases. According to the World Health Organization, more than 13 million people die each year due to preventable environmental causes around the world. Over 90% of people inhale polluted air caused by the burning of fossil fuels. People are being displaced and their health is being harmed as a result of extreme weather occurrences, land degradation, and water scarcity. Pollution and plastics have made their way into our food chain and are found at the bottom of our deepest oceans and tallest mountains. To protect peoples health from climate change, every sector must take transformative action. Environmental pollution and climatic changes are posing serious dangers to the planet as well as to humans. Its about time we take charge and act on this year’s theme and make our planet a better and healthier place to live in. (WHO, Wikipedia)
