Youngster or elder, Heart patients with weak cardiac muscles or comorbidities have always received the shorter end of the straw in case of surgical intervention. Dr. Harinder K Bali, Chairperson, Paras Hospitals briefed a press conference on Wednesday about a newly developed non-surgical procedure.

Protected Percutaneous Intervention (PCI) is a non-surgical procedure that uses a catheter to place a small stent in blood vessels and open up the narrow passage caused by calcification, plaque build-up, etc. It was said that Impella, the world’s smallest mechanical heart is used to temporarily pump the blood during the procedure.

2 such procedures have already been performed after a mere 6 weeks of introduction. Kusum Sharma, a PCI patient, called it a trouble-free and easy to recover form process.
