There has always existed a large gap between Indian and Foreign medical experts. NMC, the top educational commission has decided to bridge that space with the draft guidelines released for doctors for registration to practice medicine.

The framework details the setup of a national medical register, with a unique ID. The ID when assigned after qualifying NEET will also contain information about further post-graduation and super-specialty training. The draft also opens the avenue for foreign doctors to pursue PG programs, fellowships, research, and clinical services in India. The NMC will now grant temporary registration to such experts till the end of their chosen program with 12 months being the maximum duration.

Indian graduates will be eligible for registration after completion of an MBBS degree from a recognized college and a year-long internship with passing grades in the National Exit Test (NExT). Foreign Graduates, registerable in the said country where they completed their education are also eligible.

These drafts help in making the documentation about registered doctors and practitioners easier with all necessary updates and elimination of errors such as duplication of name, retirement, and death.

This process will help the doctors to pursue any specialization and help authorities and hospitals to check the qualification of candidates they deem eligible for hire.
