A study published in the journal Nature Genetics revealed the discovery of additional 42 genes which could be connected to the development of Alzheimer′s disease. This would help the scientists to find new targets for treatments, medications, and lifestyle changes that could decrease the chances of developing the deadly brain ailment.

The global study analyzed the genomes of 111,326 people who were clinically diagnosed with Alzheimer′s and compared with genes from 677,663 cognitively healthy people from across the world and identified 75 genes that were linked to enhanced risk of developing Alzheimer′s disease, with 42 new genes.

Several newly found genes were linked to an immunological regulator called LUBAC, which the body needs to activate genes and prevent cell death. Many genes could cause the microglia to become less efficient, causing Alzheimer′s disease to proceed. Numerous genes were found to be related to TNF, which is responsible for the development of many autoimmune illnesses such as rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, Crohn′s disease, and type 1 diabetes, as well as several other intricate gene interactions.

Also, a new scoring system was developed which could forecast the likelihood of Alzheimer′s disease, which will be valuable to researchers and those involved in the trial. (CNN, April 6, 2022)
