The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases stated that there might be an uptick in cases of Covid-19 over the next few weeks leading to a likely surge in the fall.

Experts predicted that another wave of Covid-19 from BA.2 or another variant could affect the US if vaccinations were less. Sufficient vaccination would prevent a lot of hospitalizations. With the removal of several Covid-19 protocols including masking and restrictions for indoor settings, there has been a waning of immunity as was seen in the UK. So a sudden surge in infection was expected.

The current drop in cases might be followed by a rise, though it was difficult to predict the behavior of the virus. Hence, the Food and Drug Administration, their advisory committee and the National Institutes of Health were studying to identify and decide on the best booster. (CNN, April 08, 2022)
