As authorities start to make efforts and plans for re-opening the lockdown, more than 25,000 new coronavirus infections were reported in Shanghai. After being shut down for more than three weeks, certain areas were having difficulty in finding food and medicine.

With the lockdown being relaxed partially, the government has split residential units into three groups. It includes 6,624 places that are still shut off, 2,460 "control areas” that would be opened up after a week if no positive cases were reported and 7,565 "prevention areas" that would be opened up after two weeks of no positive cases. Residents of "prevention areas" were allowed to now walk around their neighborhoods, following the social distancing norms; these areas could be closed off again if new cases emerge.

On Sunday, Shanghai added 25,173 new asymptomatic infections, while the number of symptomatic cases fell to 914 from 1,006. People′s cooperation is required since the city was under pressure not just to stop local transmissions, but also to stop the spread of the disease to neighboring areas. (Reuters, April 11, 2022)
