The health-at-doorstep programme will be launched by the district health and family welfare department in Dakshin Kannada. Dr. Kishore Kumar, Officer, DHAFW briefed TOI that the programme was inspired by the Grama Vastavaya programme, through which all senior medical officers and officials will spend a day in a village to understand the health issues there. He said that “it is not a health check-up camp but an attempt to understand the healthcare situation at the village”.

He also included that the programme is an attempt to curb the spread of the pandemic, epidemic, and, communicable diseases. The medical team will visit houses, schools, etc to interact with villagers, and gain an understanding of health-related issues, spread awareness on various health schemes including the provision of disability ID. They will also have an inspection to check the quality of medical facilities, and the shortage of ASHA and other healthcare workers.

Dr. Kishore added that the programme will be announced by the end of April.
