Among the rise in infection numbers in school-going children, DCGI’S Subject Expert Committee on Covid 19 vaccine has sought more efficacy and safety data from the Serum Institute of India. The panel conducted a review to implement the administration of its Covovax vaccine in the 7-12 years age group.

SII in response provided the interim safety and immunogenicity data collected over two months after the second dose of the vaccine was administered to 225 subject participants. The DCGI’s expert panel stated that the application will be evaluated again after the company provides the added information sought by us.

In March, Covovax received emergency use authorization among the 12-17 years age group. However, it is not included in the countries’ vaccination drive yet. (Source: https://health.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/pharma/covovax-for-7-12-year-olds-panel-seeks-more-data/90921709 )
