Acute Kidney Injury may be followed by Many Fatal Electrolyte and Metabolic Abnormalities.

Extracorporeal therapies as multiple-organ support therapy

  • Extracorporeal therapy is the treatment of choice when disorders are life threatening or refractory to medical corrections.

o It dissociates the removal of water from that of sodium or other electrolytes.

  • Cardiac support can be achieved by optimization of fluid balance, reduction or organ oedema, and restoration of desirable levels of preload and afterload.

o Extracorporeal therapy enables significant cardiovascular stability, along with maintaining hemodynamic parameters including mean arterial pressure, heart rate, and systemic vascular resistance.
