With the spiking numbers of Covid 19 infections, India has strengthened the fight against the infection that could cause possible mortality. Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya stated that Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation has approved vaccines for the age group of 5-12 years to combat the surging cases in school-going children.

The vaccines approved are Covaxin for the age group 6 to <12, Corbevax for age group 5 to <12, and two doses of ZyCoV-D for the age group above 12 under restricted use in Emergency Situations. Dr. Krishna Ella, Chairman, and MD, Bharat Biotech stated that they have established Covaxin as a universal vaccine for adults and children and have proven data for safety and immunogenicity in children. Dr. Sharvil Patel, MD, Zydus Lifesciences stated that the approval is a welcome development and will help in administering the vaccine to a larger population in a short duration of time.  

With the approval of three more vaccines for children, it will reduce the risk of infection and transmission in children as most of the schools have reopened. These will help in decreasing the growing anxiety among the parents without hampering the social interactions between kids by providing an additional layer against infection.
