During the second wave of Covid-19, steroids were important in saving many lives. However, the drug use has left many people with long-term negative effects, one of which is avascular necrosis (AVN).

Before the Covid epidemic, doctors say they only treated one or two cases of AVN involving the hip joints every month, primarily in older patients with uncontrolled diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, among other diseases. However, currently receive 20-40 instances occur every month.

But, now the patient profile has also altered and includes healthy, young people in their 20s and 30s with AVN of the hip, and the common link among them was steroids for Covid treatment. As a result, doctors advise anyone who has suffered from Covid and has groin or hip pain to consult a doctor right away so that the condition can be diagnosed early and surgery avoided.

Doctors at ISIC recently treated a 27-year-old IT professional with post-Covid AVN of the hip successfully using stem cell treatment operation.(ETHealthworld, April 27, 2022)
