Patients Evacuated as Fire Breaks in TN Hospital

A fire broke out in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on Wednesday and over 100 patients were evacuated from the hospital block. TN Fire and Rescue Service (TNFRS) and the police department after 3 hours with no loss of life or injury reported by the concerned officials.

An electrical short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire. During the incident three oxygen cylinders exploded while rescuing patients through the window. Health Minister Ma Subramanian stated that the incident was averted by the presence of mind of the staff, and prompt action by the fire and police departments. 

The minister thanked all the people who helped in the moment of crisis. He also added ICU and other wards on the floor blazed after the short circuit. However, the fire trenchers reached the spot as soon as they received the report. All the patients were shifted safely to another ward.
