Covovax administration for the 12-17 years age group under the national Covid 19 immunization program may come to an end. As most eligible adolescents have taken their first jab, there is a sufficient stock to cater to others, stated an official source.

According to governmental statistics, almost 60% of an adolescent between 12-and 14 years have taken Corbevax, while 80% of the youngsters aged between 15-and 18 have been vaccinated with Covaxin. The data also showed that 14% and 56% of teens between 12 to 14 and 15 to 18 have been immunized with both doses respectively.

On the other hand, governmental data shows that 20 crore unutilized vaccine doses are stocked in UTs and states including 6-6.5 crore doses of Corbevax to be administered in the age group of 12 to 14 years. The official stated that the government has placed an order of 30 crore doses. However, they have procured about 10 crore doses till now. Hence, they can acquire more doses as per the dose’s requirement on later dates.
