Asthma, a chronic inflammatory disease causes constriction and swelling of the airways and results in bouts of coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and wheezing periodically. Certain triggering factors include sinus infections, allergies, pollen, inhaling some chemicals, acid reflux etc. Currently recovery from Covid also adds up to the risk.

Global Initiative for Asthma, (GINA) is organizing World Asthma Day (WAD) (May 3, 2022) with the theme “Closing Gaps in Asthma Care’. GINA aims at bridging the current gaps in Asthma care and enhancing the quality of life of people suffering from Asthma. Current gaps in asthma care include access inequality with regard to primary treatment, diagnosis and availability of medicines to all communities, all countries, accessories needed to communicate and provide care across the primary/secondary/tertiary care interface, poor knowledge and awareness about the diseases among people, health care providers, prioritizing between asthma and other respiratory conditions and inequality between scientific evidence and the actual delivery of care for people with asthma.

This year′s theme throws a challenge to the international respiratory communities to work together with colleagues, patients, and healthcare providers to discover and solve gaps in asthma care, as well as help to accomplish and share creative solutions in every country which would be beneficial locally and globally.
