The union government is planning to set up a central public health cadre for medical professionals’ recruitment through UPSC along with central service officers. According to the plan, all the healthcare professionals including the workers recruited in the directorate general of health services (DGHS) will be selected through the cadre and will help the government in framing and implementing healthcare policies.

Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health minister approved the suggestion presented in the Chintanshivir held at Gujarat regarding the challenges faced during the pandemic. A government official at the camp stated that this was a much-needed step as we are facing a minimal level of healthcare professionals for a densely populated state.

Preeti Sudan, Former health secretary stated that the public health doctors are present in the government and medical colleges, but this plan will bring them to the field, state, district, and sub-district levels.
