A three-year-old child died in Latin America after contracting a severe form of hepatitis from an unknown source. On Friday, the Mexican authorities confirmed the same.

The child, who was originally from Hidalgo, was shifted to a hospital in Mexico City but died last week, according to the Hidalgo Health Secretariat. In the same state, three other probable cases of the disease are being investigated. The death of six children has been reported worldwide so far due to the diseases.

Acute hepatitis is seldom seen in youngsters, but doctors have noticed an increase in cases of liver inflammation among generally healthy children under the age of five in recent weeks. Because the cause of the instances is unknown, it cannot be attributed to the most common hepatitis variations (A, B, C, D, or E) or an autoimmune reaction.

Experts claim hepatitis cases are not caused by COVID immunizations, but they havent ruled out a relationship to earlier COVID infection.
