According to researchers at Cedar-Sinai COVID 19 vaccination strengthened immune response to the coronavirus IBD patients even when they were on immune suppressant medications. The findings of the two studies published in the journals IBD and Frontiers in immunology stated that IBD medications such as anti-TNF suppress inflammation along with T-cells developed in the bone marrow.

Dr. Balin Li, a Research scientist, stated that T-cells response and anti-TNF therapy explain the association between medication and reduced hospitalization or death from COVID 19. He also added that the T-cells response test, a potential clinical assay can be used to monitor new vaccine and booster dose outcomes.

Jonathan Braun, Ph.D., a scientist stated that this study reassures the importance of vaccination in IBD patients with their therapies offering them added protection from a serious illness on hospitalization. This also encourages the patients and their doctors to continue their treatment and therapy during the pandemic.
