  • In a Japanese study, it was suggested that vaccination-induced antibody acquisition rates against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) were extremely low in patients who underwent post-kidney transplantation.
  • The SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines have shown high efficacy in developing antibodies in healthy individuals and are thus known to be effective against preventive infections.
  • It has been reported that immunocompromised patients, such as those with underlying diseases are at high risk for developing severe diseases and should follow all protective measures to prevent infections.
  • Thus, patients post-kidney transplant may remain at risk of infection with only two doses of vaccination.
  • It is recommended that even though two doses of vaccination, these patients should be closely monitored for infection control.
