Gurgaon-based, National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) is trying to identify the molecular part of the virus causing brain fog in coronavirus infected patients. Pankaj Seth, a Research scientist, and professor stated that they are trying to study the mechanism of neuron damage following the exposure to the Covid virus.

The center has sourced some brain cross-sections of patients who died due to infection from the brain bank of NIMHANS as the virus cannot be visualized using imaging techniques such as MRI, X-rays, etc. Seth added that the research team is trying to visualize the molecular and cellular mechanism of SARS CoV-2 protein that mediates nerve damage by using different components of the virus, namely spike proteins in neuronal culture, etc.

He also added that the study will help doctors in understanding and treating the patients with long covid symptoms.
