Dr Awadhesh Dixit, speaking at a symposium organized on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on Tuesday at JK Cancer Institute in Kanpur, stated that passive smoking is equally harmful to humans since smoke from other people reaches the lungs of non-smokers, particularly impacting youngsters and pregnant women.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), passive smoking is responsible for the deaths of 1.2 million individuals worldwide. Quitting bidi, cigarettes, and tobacco has a number of advantages. High heart rate and blood pressure would return to normal within 12 minutes of quitting smoking, and blood flow and lung capacity would increase in 2-12 weeks.

Tobacco users, in any form, are more susceptible to 40 different cancers and 25 other dangerous disorders, including mouth and throat cancer.  (ETHealthWorld, June 01, 2022)
