On Wednesday, nurses from State-run hospitals called off their week-long strike after an assurance by Medical Education minister, Amit Deshmukh to fulfill their demands. The Maharashtra State Nursing Association has protested against the outsourcing of nurses for vacant posts and has raised several other demands.

The nurses have called the strike on May 26th causing a significant delay in all elective surgeries in the state. Also, the routine work of patient care has been badly affected. MSNA secretary, Sumitra Tote, stated that the association had a very positive meeting with the minister who assured them that the demands will be fulfilled on Tuesday. After getting the copy of the meeting minutes on Wednesday, the association has decided to call off the strike.

The ministry has promised to resolve their problem by July 15th. However, the association members stated that they plan to continue their strike if their demands are not fulfilled.
