Results of the first European registry focused on adult patients with the various cardiomyopathy subtypes show that four in ten cardiomyopathies are genetic. Cardiomyopathies are a major cause of sudden death in young people. The study reported January 24, 2018 in the European Heart Journal recommends family screening to prevent early death in apparently healthy relatives.
