India and WHO Discuss Work Plan for Ayurveda, Siddha, and Other Traditional Medicines

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General and India′s Secretary (West) Ministry of External Affairs have joined hands for global health and well-being. This discussion included topics such as traditional medicines and digital health. Therapies and practices such as Yoga, Ayurveda, and Siddha have been a part of Indian tradition for a long time and were explained to Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO, Director-general by Mr. Sanjay Verma.

Recently, WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine was inaugurated at Jamnagar, Gujarat. The purpose of the GCTM was to integrate traditional methods and technological advances, policy framework, and standards, and implement the WHO strategy. Also, the Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit were held to increase investment and showcase innovation in the field of traditional medicine at Gandhinagar.

As per the WHO, 80% of the world population uses traditional medicine with the Global Health Regulator stating that traditional medicine is a sum of knowledge, skills, and practices used by indigenous and different cultures to maintain health and prevent, diagnose and treat physical and mental illness over time.
