According to a recent WebMD survey, about a third of the participating adult admitted that they know about their family’s health history. While on the other hand, more than a quarter of the participants admitted to knowing little or none of it. The survey conducted among 753 U.S. consumers between May 25th and 31st showed that 35% of the people knew about their family history, while 10% did not any knowledge of it. The survey noted that the respondent population was mostly the older population i.e., 74% were aged 45 and older with 65% of the cohort representing the female population.

The survey also highlighted the lack of medical self-knowledge as 39% of the individuals did not know their blood type. The survey also reported that participants above 45 years were significantly more knowledgeable in comparison to younger counterparts (71% vs 53%) and women were more likely to know self-medication protocol than men (66% vs 54%).

Another important factor reported in the survey was the negligence in measuring three health indicators i.e., cholesterol, BMI, and Bone density in the general population, especially among the older generation. Cholesterol levels were checked by 46% of the participants, followed by the BMI (43%) and Bone density (11%).
