DCGI recommends QHPV vaccine for individuals between 9 years to 26 years of age

The DCGI committee has recommended Serum Institute’s Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus (qHPV) vaccine for cervical cancer patients. An official source stated that the expert committee recommended granting the Market authorization to the SII-developed vaccine on Wednesday. 

The vaccine is recommended for patients between the age of 9 to 26 years, irrespective of gender. Cervical cancer accounts for 16.5% of the total cancer cases in Indian women and is dibbed as the second most common type of cancer after breast cancer. According to the source, the approved application has been sent to the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) for the final decision on the HPV vaccine that will be declared in the meeting scheduled on June 29.
