A representative from Thane Medical Fraternity stated that the agency EnviroVigil, deployed for the collection and disposal of Biomedical wastes for nearly 1500 healthcare units has abruptly stopped its services citing an order from Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. This has resulted in a massive pile-up of biomedical waste left lying within the premises of hospitals and pathology labs posing a severe health hazard. Meanwhile, the new agency that was pulled in at the last minute showed their disagreement over the rate charged by the healthcare units.

The Thane chapter of the Indian Health Association stated that they are coordinating with the municipal corporation over sudden developments and will try to resolve the issue by Saturday. Meanwhile, the doctors have expressed their concerns over the silence of the corporation in the matter as stopping biomedical waste for longer periods is hazardous stated Dr. Mahesh Bedekar.
