The National Health Authority officials stated that the Government’s platform for vaccination of children, and organ and blood donation are expected to be ready in six months. However, the data required to be seeded on these platforms may take some time. COWIN chief and NHA’s CEO, R.S Sharma, stated that the parents will need to provide information related to birth, vaccination of children, etc. to track the vaccination schedule along with other agencies filling up with data like vaccination centers, etc. Mr. Sharma also stated that the NHA has set up plans for preparing three different applications based on the same architecture, one for each program i.e., National Immunization Programme, Blood Donation Programme, and Organ Donation Programme.

The Government has planned to repurpose COWIN to digitize the Universal Immunization Programme and others to connect a patient to the nearest medical facility in case of emergency. Mr. Sharma added that the digitization of the system will be strictly based on the existing regulations, especially in the case of organ donation. He also added that over 130 countries are in discussion with India for learning and adapting COWIN platform technology.
