Tamil Nadu Seeks Centre's Approval for Permit Free Booster Shots for 18-59 Group

Given the rise in fresh cases, the low uptake of a booster dose in the state of Tamil Nadu is a major concern. 20,12,25,301 booster jab has been administered in the state till now with the State government seeking the Union government’s approval for free administration of booster doses to the eligible population in the age group of 18-59 at government vaccination centers. 

As of now, healthcare workers, frontline workers, and people aged 60 and above are eligible to take the precautionary jab at any Covid 19 vaccination centers, including government centers. The rest of the eligible population can get the jabs from private vaccination centers at prescribed rates.

Meanwhile, the State Health Department Official stated that the approval will be a significant step toward broader vaccination coverage, especially in vulnerable and weaker sections of society. The health department has also sought permission for free Corbevax vaccination for the 15-17 age group, who have not received their first dose itself.
